MCM provides crisis accommodation in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD for young people experiencing homelessness at Frontyard Youth Services. Some of our most vulnerable Victorians are at increased risk throughout the current COVID-19 pandemic.
In March the Commonwealth Government announced a new Early Childhood and Care Relief Package that aims to make childcare available for free to support families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The introduction of the Commonwealth Government’s Early Childhood and Care Relief Package on Monday 6 April cut MCM childcare centre funding in half and prompted MCM to actively advocate to government and in the media for a viable solution to be urgently found to sustain our Early Learning Centres during the COVID-19 outbreak.

MCM welcomes the intention of the Early Childhood package announced by the Commonwealth Government last week, with its focus on sustaining childcare centres during the COVID-19 pandemic and providing families with free childcare, it hasn’t adequately considered the impact on diverse not-for-profits like MCM for whom childcare is only one component of the community services it provides.
