As fuel prices and the cost of living continue to climb, MCM is warning of a ripple effect that will push more young people into homelessness unless urgent action is taken to fix what’s being called the “youth housing penalty.”
Nearly half of vulnerable young Victorians turning to homelessness services alone are battling mental health conditions so severe they should be in hospital, shocking new analysis reveals.

Every story is different. The need for safety is the same.
Ryn experienced family violence growing up. It left him with experiences of mental ill-health and led to him becoming homeless in his teens.
“It was so rough, having nowhere safe to sleep at night. The emotional stress, the fear and anxiety all built up in me.”
Shaini was able to access MCM’s Better Futures program. It assists across a range of areas including housing, education, employment and health & wellbeing.
