What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive behaviour support (PBS) is a comprehensive and evidence-based approach to addressing behaviours of concern in children, young people and adults with disability.

PBS aims to create strategies that can be used by:

  • parents
  • families
  • staff
  • mainstream or other support services, including childcare, kindergarten and school

As each person is different and their challenging behaviour varies, intervention strategies are unique to each individual. Parents and carers have a central role in developing strategies and are supported to properly implement them at home.

The main goal of PBS plans is to replace behaviours of concern and help people to develop more positive ways of communicating. This not only improves the quality of life for the person you care for but can strengthen the family unit’s relationships.

We offer a range of supports for families

Some days are more challenging than others. But the important thing is that you don’t have to do it alone.

We support children and young people to learn new skills and strategies that replace behaviours of concern and boost their communication skills.

Working in partnership with you, we look at setting goals and developing a plan that will improve the quality of life for all members of the family.

Our program is designed to provide tailored behaviour management strategies that increase participation and inclusion in family home life and in the broader community. Our positive behaviour supports are available in your home, or we offer services in our own purpose-built house in Heidelberg Heights.

Through our in home support, we help you develop a personalised program in your natural environment. This program can then be used at school and in the community.

B Street – an overnight behaviour support service

In our 4-bedroom, purpose built home we offer a combined model of short-term accommodation and professional behaviour support services to children aged between 6-18 years. Individualised programs are delivered to each child to enable the child to improve their capacity to cope with the world around them and build independence in everyday life. NDIS participants who are still in the education system and have turned 18yrs of age can continue to receive short-term accommodation supports at B Street. Find out more about B Street.
