Supporting children with complex feeding needs

Feeding is about comfort, connection and growth. Some children find eating hard for many reasons. These can include sensory differences, a limited range of preferred foods, difficulty chewing or swallowing safely, or stress during meals. These experiences are common and deserve respectful support that honours each child’s needs.

At MCM Early Childhood Intervention Services (ECIS), we use a strength based, neuroaffirming approach. We listen to you and your child. We focus on what already works and build upon this for positive results and support.

How the ECIS Team can help

  • Responsive feeding that follows the child’s cues
  • Support based on sensory needs and preferences
  • Simple ideas that families can take home and use meal times
  • Connecting families with Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and Key Workers, that collaborate with families, using evidence based practices
  • Links to further medical specialists, when needed.

What families can expect

  • Clear information and practical support
  • Respect for your child’s identity and communication style
  • Plans that focus on comfort, safety and participation

If you would like help with feeding, including restricted eating, swallowing needs or calmer mealtimes, our team can work with you.
