Paul Wappett announced as MCM Group CEO

3 February 2026

Following a rigorous national recruitment process that attracted a strong field of high-quality candidates, the MCM Board has confirmed the permanent appointment of Paul Wappett as MCM Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

“After careful consideration, the Board agreed that Paul is the right leader to guide MCM into its next chapter,” said MCM Board Chair Jonathan Mortimer.

“Since stepping into the interim CEO role last September, Paul has demonstrated strong, values-led leadership, a deep commitment to MCM’s purpose, and a clear focus on the people and communities we serve.” Paul’s tenure as Group CEO begins immediately and we look forward to continuing our important work with our partners and stakeholders under Paul’s leadership.

Paul is an experienced CEO, having previously led Open Universities Australia, the Australian Institute of Business, and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, and has extensive experience in leading large complex human services organisations through periods of changes as they respond to changes in the external environment. Alongside his executive roles, Paul has demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting marginalised communities, having served as Chair of Berry Street and currently as Chair of Phoenix Australia, the national centre of excellence in posttraumatic mental health.

“It has been a privilege to step into the interim MCM CEO role over the past few months, and I’m grateful to the Board for the confidence they’ve shown in appointing me to the role permanently,” said Paul. “I’m really pleased to be continuing this work alongside our capable and dedicated teams at MCM, who strive every day to help build a better life for vulnerable Victorians.

“I am genuinely honoured to be the next custodian of the MCM legacy”.
