1 July 2026
Young people connected to MCM youth services will share their creativity, perspectives and lived experiences through a new public art exhibition opening this July.
What Matters is MCM’s inaugural youth art show, bringing together artworks created by young people from across our foyers, refuges and youth programs.
The exhibition provides a platform for young people to create, share and celebrate art while challenging community attitudes towards youth homelessness.
Young people with lived experience of homelessness are artists, storytellers and cultural contributors. Through painting, photography, illustration and mixed media, the exhibition shares their perspectives through art, on their own terms.
Art is a powerful form of expression, advocacy and connection. The exhibition aims to create space for listening, reflection and dialogue, while encouraging greater understanding of the complexity of youth homelessness and the strength, creativity and insight of young people.
The opening night will take place on Tuesday 21 July and bring together young artists, supporters, staff and community members to celebrate the works on display and the voices behind them.
22–24 July
Open daily from 9.00am – 7.30pm
Collingwood Sale Yards, 35 Johnson Street, Collingwood
Information on how to get to Collingwood Yards, including a map of accessible entries, can be found on the Collingwood Yards website.
Community engagement plays a role in change, and members of the public are warmly invited to attend and experience an exhibition grounded in creativity, connection and lived experience.
