MCM’s Sleep At The ‘G was officially launched on 18 March with supporters and partners coming together to make a collective call to action to the community to get involved in this year’s event and to take a stand alongside the more than 7600 young Victorians who don’t have a safe place to sleep every night.

More than just a fundraiser, Sleep At The ’G is a powerful demonstration of collective action. Friends, families, colleagues and teams will swap their beds for sleeping bags for one night to unite and raise vital funds while hearing directly from young people with lived experience.

The MCG will once again transform into a place of connection and purpose, with MC Brihony Dawson returning to lead an evening of fireside conversations, music, games and community activities.

“Sleep At The ’G is about standing alongside young people and recognising that youth homelessness is not a choice,” said Paul Wappett, CEO of MCM (Melbourne City Mission).

“By spending one night experiencing a small part of what too many young people face every day, our community is helping to raise vital funds and awareness so young people can access safety, support and a place to call home. The generosity and commitment shown by our fundraisers gives us confidence that together, we can change outcomes for young people across Victoria.”

Youth homelessness in Victoria remains a significant and complex challenge. Many young people are couch surfing, sleeping in cars, or staying in unsafe or overcrowded housing.

Recent data from MCM’s Frontyard Youth Services highlights the scale of need:

  • 61% of young people present due to housing issues, often linked to family violence, unemployment and lack of support
  • 83% have experienced family violence
  • 2 in 3 have had contact with Child Protection
  • 65% report self-harm, suicidal ideation or attempts
  • 66% are not engaged in study or work
  • 58% have experienced homelessness for two years or more

Funds raised through Sleep At The ’G directly support MCM’s frontline services, providing stable housing and wraparound support to help young people break the cycle of homelessness.

In 2025, 894 participants raised more than $730,000, demonstrating the impact of community-led action.

Registrations for 2026 are now open, with MCM calling on individuals, corporates, sporting clubs and community groups to get involved.
