About the Program

The Lead Tenant Program sits within the Community Integration Accommodation Options (CIAO) team at Melbourne City Mission (MCM).

Young people are supported by dedicated case workers who assist with education, employment, health, advocacy and long-term planning. As a Lead Tenant, your contribution is relational and practical — modelling routines, healthy communication and shared responsibility within a household.

What the Role Involves 

  • Residing in an MCM property alongside up to two young people and another Lead Tenant
  • Modelling respectful communication and daily structure
  • Supporting the development of independent living skills (cooking, budgeting, routines)
  • Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
  • Communicating regularly with CIAO staff
  • Contacting the On-Call Worker in emergencies
  • Always acting in the best interests of young people

Commitment & Probation Period 

This position is subject to:

  • A three-month probationary period (which may be extended to six months).
  • This ensures the arrangement is a good fit for both the Lead Tenant, Program and Young People.
