About the program

The People & Culture (P&C) team provides leadership in the development and provision of HR strategies and practices that support Melbourne City Mission (MCM) and its high school Hester Hornbrook Academy (HHA) to bring out the full potential of its people to achieve outcomes with the people they work with to build better lives.

About the role

The Human Resources Business Partner is a key leadership to our people leaders and will contribute to outcomes over the next twelve months by:

  • Impacting recruitment strategies to respond to talent attraction and retention challenges in the youth and homelessness workforces
  • Developing and implementing program level employee value propositions with the leadership team
  • Working with line managers to address a broad range of employee relations matters including workplace and complaint investigations.
  • Supporting the implementation of diversity, equity and inclusion strategies and initiatives
  • Growing management capability and confidence to enable effective people management to occur in the right moment at the right place.
  • Supporting enterprise agreement negotiations that covers half of the MCM workforce

Skills and experience

Some experience and attributes that suitable candidates would bring to their application are:


  • A broad range of employee relations/case management experience that will enable them to competently support and coach managers through performance and conduct conversations and investigations.
  • Practical working knowledge of employment legislation and industrial instruments like enterprise agreements.
  • The ability to be flexible to adapt and respond with an ‘up for the challenge’ attitude in complex and fast-paced environments.
  • The ability to connect and grow relationships with colleagues, managers and other stakeholders through engaging interactions and communications to achieve outcomes together.
